Christmas in Cali

We flew into Los Angeles on Christmas Eve and embarked on our California Adventure. Stepping off the plane, the weather was hot, the airport was bustling and the traffic was unreal. We ubered to Cruise America, picked up our 24 foot home on wheels and took off on six lanes of madness…destination: Joshua Tree National Park.

We arrived after dark, and the stars in the sky were unbelievable…it was very dark out in the desert and the coyotes yelped in the distance. Santa dropped by the Motorhome and left a couple of card games and picked up his milk and cookies. The night was much colder than we anticipated in the desert and by morning we had all piled into one bed to keep warm. We toured the park, and made several stops along the way. The Joshua Trees and Cacti in the park were all so unique.

On route to our next stop, we travelled through the Mojave desert and miles and miles of Star Wars like landscape with very remote houses sprinkled through the desolate space. We stopped for the night at a private campground in Tecopa where repurposed hot tubs were used to make natural hot tub pools from geothermal heated water coming through spring out of the ground. The next morning we drove into Death Valley National Park, we hiked at Zabriskie Point and Golden Canyon, stopped into the Visitor’s Centre and camped for the night at Furnace Creek. The next morning, we headed down Badwater drive and hiked out on the salt flats, 282 feet below sea level. We toured Artist drive and stopped to hike at the viewpoints and even met some tourists driving the wrong way down the narrow one way road.

After four nights in California we headed on into Nevada
