And we’re off

After a whirlwind of last minute packing and prepping, we turned over our keys to our tenants, closed the front door and set out on our adventure. We set off from Thamesford at 6:30 am and headed to the Ambassador bridge. Our first day was mostly a driving day. We stopped in Ohio for groceries and called it a night at a reststop outside of Louisville, Kentucky. We had decided to stop at a state park in Kentucky but found that the state parks don’t open in Kentucky until March or April.This morning we woke up early and headed to Mammoth Caves National Park, Kentucky. It was about an hour and a half drive and the kids stayed asleep until we arrived.We had breakfast in the Motorhome before the visitor center opened, then realized we had changed time zones to Central time so still had a couple hours to kill until the park opened at 8:30.We did a morning hike through the woods and spotted some deer and a sink hole. We also toured the visitor center and took a 2 mile guided tour through the undergeound caves. Some interesting facts about the caves: the dirt on the floor of the cave was used to extract Salt peter, an element used to create gun powder and a tuberculoses hospital was built in the cave to segregate tuberculoses patients while they recovered. The girls enjoyed squeezing through “fat mans misery” and ducking through “tall mans misery”On to Huntsville, Alabama tonight.
